THE FOOTBALL FIELD by: Trimick Kates
When I first started playing football in the backyard with my friends I was one of the worst players in the neighborhood. That’s because I never gave the time to play football or learn about it. Then that summer my friend said that I should sign up for the North Edison Shamrocks to play football. I did and it was the first time I’ve ever play on a team. That year it changed the way I played and felt about football.

My first year I was a safety I didn’t really know what to do but my coach said not to let anybody behind me so I remembered that on the field. So three years go by and it’s my last season playing for the Shamrocks. A lot of people knew me because of my speed and skill and this season I played RB (running back). I’ve never played running back before but the coach’s helped me out a little with that. Preseason we had three games in one day our first game. I got the ball and ran for the first time I was nervous but I ran it all the way to the two yard line. I thought to myself that wasn’t so bad.

So week 3 of our regular season we were playing a team at home so everyone was there watching so in that game I scored my first touchdown. So it was half time and we were up 14-0 and later in the 3rd quarter I scored. It was a toss to me and when I got it I broke out to the side line and ran it for 78 yards for the touchdown. I was as happy as a child opening the gifts on Christmas day. As I look back I see my teammates jumping and the crowd cheering as the score is now 21-0. But it wasn’t until the end of the game that my friend said I ran 78 yards after that I scored in almost every other game.

But not one of them can beat my first/longest touchdown on the Shamrocks. That is way the Shamrock Field is an important place to me. That’s where I started to love football and even if it was my last year and I graduated it won’t be my last year playing football. I hope that I can say the same when I play for the High School.
